Barn Concert Kickstarts Veterans Retreat

December 24, 2019 by Taylor McCarthy

Barn Concert Featuring Mack Bailey

This fall, we were honored to host a second weekend veterans retreat this year. As always, we kicked off the weekend with a concert featuring Mack Bailey!

The concert allows us an opportunity to invite members of the community to join us and enjoy some yummy chili, deserts, and lively music.

Attendees were able to meet and listen to some of our very talented local friends, who opened for Mack Bailey and performed everything from a Les Mis cover to saxophone solos, to original songs and even yodeling! Mack Bailey concluded the concert with a performance of songs written by veterans, about their life experiences.

To conclude the night, the whole room joined Mack during a cover of John Denver’s Country Roads.

Weekend Veterans Retreat

Madison Fields paired up with Wounded Warrior Project and Music Therapy of the Rockies to hold a weekend filled with music, healing, and inspiration during which veterans were encouraged to share their personal stories through song.

Thirteen veterans spent the weekend together with music therapists and professional songwriters to talk about and process their experiences. Each participant was gifted a guitar to take home with them, which they were taught how to play over the course of the weekend. At the conclusion of the retreat, each veteran joined their songwriter to perform the song they crafted together in front of a private audience made up of family and friends

It was a powerful evening as the room filled with learning, empathy and compassion for each individual sharing their story.

The weekend of healing was truly inspiring. We feel honored that Madison Fields proves to be such an integral part in the wellbeing of local veterans. We look forward to hosting many more retreats in the coming years.
