Winter wheat was planted last fall at Madison Fields, and the end result is just beautiful.
The wheat was planted and harvested by Rob Baker. It is typically ready to be harvested in late spring, early summer. Rob brought his crew and machines out to the farm over the fourth of July weekend. The combine is driven through the field to gather the wheat heads.
The combine works by “combining” three labor-intensive farm jobs: reaping, threshing, and winnowing crops. When the combine is full the wheat is unloaded into trucks and taken to the granary, where it will be sold. The wheat stalks are cut and bailed and then used as straw.
